There are few more liberating things in life than going for a run. It requires minimal equipment, minimal time and can virtually be done anywhere. Unfortunately for many people, however, running is not a pleasurable experience but a painful one. As running can place up to 3 times your body weight through your feet, legs, pelvis and back, it is no wonder that the joints, muscles and soft tissues can break down under the jarring stresses. To run pain-free, you have to be able to run well with good if not ideal body mechanics. Anything less will eventually lead to injury and pain.

It is critically important therefore that when assessing and treating running injuries, the sources and even more importantly the causes of the injuries are identified and remedied. This means that not only must individual muscles, joints and tissues be tested for normal control and mechanics, but the running motion, intensity and amount must be addressed to identify abnormal or excessive stresses which could lead to injury. A faulty running action, excessive training, hard or changing surfaces and poor footwear can lead just as much to injury as restricted or overly mobile joints, weak, stiff or short muscles or lack of balance. At Bodywise Health, we leave no stone unturned in assessing all these factors and more so that you experience the best, fastest and most long term recovery possible.

Get to the root cause of your problem with our comprehensive examination system

At Bodywise Health, some of the examination techniques we use include:

  1. Comprehensive Biomechanical Examination to analyze your body’s alignment
  2. Real-Time Ultrasound to determine that correct timing and activation of your core supporting muscles
  3. Electromyography to give feedback as to whether muscles are contracting at the right time and with the right intensity
  4. Video Analysis which involves filming cycling movement so that it can be analyzed and any abnormal patterning can be corrected
  5. Gait Scan which measures the amount and timing of foot pressure during walking and running and helps identify and rectify problems to do with the feet and legs.

Combining the results of each of these tests enables us to identify both the source and cause of your problem which allows a targeted rehabilitation program to be devised and implemented. A person specific, movement specific and sport/function specific, this rehab program is then performed one on one under the instruction of your physiotherapist to make sure that the “injury” stresses are eliminated and that your movement becomes as effective and efficient as possible.
